D.H. GRIFFIN COMPANIES

The D.H. Griffin Companies (DHG) is a group of privately owned and integrated companies that provide contract demolition, environmental and site development services, and rigging services to both public and private sectors. Together, the DHG network includes over 1,200 employees in offices throughout the South and Mid-Atlantic states, with an equipment fleet numbering over 1,200 pieces. DHG completes in excess of $400 million dollars in project revenue each year, serving both domestic and international markets.

History

D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Inc. was founded in 1959 by D.H. Griffin, Sr. and his wife Marylene F. Griffin. Starting from humble beginnings, the Company's first job was the dismantlement of a local church for the salvaged building materials. For the first two years of business, all the work was done by hand with sledgehammers, crowbars and brute strength; salvaging materials piece-by-piece and loading trucks by hand. In 1961, the Company purchased its first piece of equipment, a 7G Allis-Chalmers Front End Loader. Since then, we have continued to grow piece by piece, tractor by tractor, and truck by truck. Today the D.H. Griffin Companies' fleet numbers over 1,200 pieces.

1959 - D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company

DHG Wrecking Company, Inc. was founded by D.H. Griffin Sr. and his wife Marylene. After his first demolition project of taking apart an old wooden church by hand off Battleground Avenue in Greensboro, he bought a license for $5, and the rest was history.

Greenville South Carolina Old City Hall Building Demolished

1973 - Greenville, SC Old City Hall

D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company, Inc. demolished the old City Hall building in Greenville, South Carolina. The job cost the city approximately $15,000 and was completed by means of a crane and wrecking ball.

1985 - DHG Demolition & Asbestos Removal, Inc. (DARI)

Demolition & Asbestos Removal, Inc. (DARI) was established to provide environmental abatement support for D.H. Griffin Wrecking Demolition projects.

1995 - D.H. Griffin of Texas - Demolition, Dismantling, Asbestos

DHG expanded their operations to reach the South-Central region of the United States and formed D.H. Griffin of Texas, Inc. which offers demolition, dismantling, and asbestos services.

2001: 9-11 World Trade Center Demolition

D.H. Griffin President, David Griffin Jr. was on-site at Ground Zero less than 48 hours after the 9-11 attacks. With his expertise in demolition, David and the DHG team were able to provide the city with a plan to cleanup over 17 acres of impacted structures that either collapsed or had been affected by the attack. Upon completion, the team recovered over 1.7 million tons of material, they saved the city over 400 million dollars, and they were 9 months ahead of schedule. To this day, the WTC project is the largest demolition job in United States history.

2004: D.H. Griffin Infrastructure Founded

D.H. Griffin Infrastructure was formed to be a one stop shop for all things site grading and development, underground utilities and system, and specialty concrete. Since its inception, DHGI has worked for over 18 Fortunre 500 companies and has moved over 7.5 million yards of dirt.

D.H Griffin Industrial Equipment Installation Dismantling Relocation Removal

2007: DHG Contracting Company

DHG added industrial equipment installation, equipment dismantling, relocation and removal to its line of turnkey services with the acquisition of Taft Contracting Company's South Building and Equipment Division. D.H. Griffin Contracting Company has since become a leading industrial contracting company, specializing in moving, erecting, servicing, and storing equipment in hi-tech machinery.

Asbestos Abatement Demolition and Removal Florida Power and Light Port Everglades Power Plant

2013: Florida Power & Light Port Everglades Power Plant

DHG completed the asbestos abatement, demolition, and removal of FP&L's 1,200 megawatt Port Everglades Power Plant. The implosion was a success, taking down four boilers and four 350-foot stacks while also recycling 98% of facility property.

D.H. Griffin Infrastructure Fluor NOVO Nordisk DAPI

2016: DHG Infrastructure Fluor NOVO Nordisk DAPI Project

DHG Infrastructure was awarded the Fluor NOVO Nordisk DAPI project in Clayton, NC. At the time, this was the biggest job in infrastructure's history, and it took 4 years to complete, moving approximately 2 million cubic yards of dirt. During the project, they were awarded the 2019 Engineering Excellence Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Carolina for the surcharge program.

2022: DHG Hyperbolic Cooling Towers

DHG successfully imploded the first hyperbolic cooling towers in DHG history at Tennessee Valley Authority's Paradise Coal Plant in Kentucky.

In the Community

D.H. Griffin Companies has a long history of support in its communities.

For over 25 years, DHG has supported local athletic programs by sponsoring sporting events and teams for the youth in our area. DHG also raises money for local charities through its annual Jamestown Civitan - Marylene F. Griffin Memorial Golf Classic held every Spring in Jamestown, N.C.
