Statement of Qualifications | D.H. Griffin

A Legacy of Leadership in Demolition

With over six decades of experience, D.H. Griffin has built a national reputation for handling the most challenging demolition projects in dense, high-traffic environments. Our team is uniquely equipped to manage building removal in tight urban settings where safety, coordination, and precision are critical.

For projects involving close proximity to occupied structures, active roadways, and pedestrian zones, we implement detailed protection and control plans tailored to each site. This includes engineered traffic and pedestrian control systems, site-specific safety barriers, and phased demolition sequencing to minimize disruptions and ensure public safety.

Our capabilities for urban demolition projects include:

  • Traffic and pedestrian protection & control
  • Dewatering and site water management
  • Limited structural shoring to maintain integrity during demolition
  • Selective abatement performed in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Precision mechanical demolition in tight quarters
  • Vibration and impact monitoring near adjacent structures

Every project begins with comprehensive planning and risk assessment, followed by strategic execution using our fleet of specialized equipment and highly trained personnel. Whether it's a single-story commercial structure or a multi-story facility within a confined downtown block, D.H. Griffin delivers safe, efficient, and compliant demolition solutions with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment.

Project Highlights

Skanska Capitol Tower, PH2A/Houston Club Building

Location: Houston, TX

This project entailed the complete structural demolition of two high-rise buildings, an 18-story steel framed structure and a 12-story cast in place concrete structure, both inclusive of full basements. The buildings were located immediately adjacent to a 6-story parking garage, scheduled for demolition.

To facilitate the implosion of 2 towers, while preserving the adjacent structure, DHG executed a targeted separation of two full structural bays from each building totaling 187,000 sf. This separation created the required clearance to mitigate impact to nearby structures and expedite subsequent site redevelopment activities. Both buildings featured exterior masonry facades coated with asbestos containing weatherproofing mastic. Full perimeter scaffolding was erected on the entire exterior to allow for controlled removal of the brick and mastic.
