D.H. Griffin was contracted by Appalachian State University to provide the asbestos abatement and demolition of the ten story, 42,000 square foot Winkler Hall. The former residence hall had approximately 34,125 sf of floor tile and mastic, 41,200 sf ceiling surfacing, 52,875 sf of joint compound/sheetrock and several hundred feet of asbestos containing thermal system insulation from piping throughout the structure. DARI performed the majority of the strip out work prior to abatement including desks, doors, and drop ceilings. Additionally, D.H. Griffin removed universal wastes throughout the building during the strip out process. Following abatement and interior strip out, DHG successfully imploded the building on June 1, 2014. Cleanup and removal of all debris completed in August.
