Duke Energy W.S. Lee Steam Station: Precipitator Abatement and Demolition Project

D.H. Griffin was contracted to abate and demolish the three retired precipitator units of this 370 MW power plant. One of the three boilers was converted to natural gas so the Power House is still active at the plant. DARI provided the abatement of the penthouses for all three precipitators; miscellaneous gaskets off of Units1 & 2; granular fill and miscellaneous gaskets off of Unit 3; and abatement of Electric Motor Control Structure. DHG provided mechanical demolition of Precipitators 1 & 2 and successfully imploded Unit #3. DARI also was subcontracted by DHG to provide the abatement of all structures in the Coal Yard including removal of transite from coal conveyors, transfer houses and associated buildings.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

  • Abatement and demolition of Precipitator Units 1, 2 and 3 and ancillary structures at this 370-MW power plant.
  • DARI performed asbestos abatement of the two precipitators and associated structures and equipment.
  • DARI performed abatement of all Coal Yard structures.
