Ecusta Paper Plant Dismantling & Demolition

Brevard, NC

Work began May 2008 on the demolition and removal of the entire defunct paper mill in mountains near Asheville, North Carolina. Work included removal of hazardous materials including asbestos and universal wastes throughout the 2.1 million SF facility prior to dismantling and removal of equipment and structures. DHG dismantled and removed remaining equipment throughout the plant which was scraped for recycling. Remaining equipment in machine shop was sold for reuse. Remaining phase of work includes demolition of approximately 400,000 sf. DHG will re-mobilize upon owner notification that environmental remediation and approval by EPA is complete. DHG crushed and recycled concrete, brick and block for reuse and recycled ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Work also included mechanical and explosive demolition to drop elevated water tanks. Work phased to allow for site remediation of Mercury contaminated soil by others and certification by the EPA. DHG remobilized and completed work in Nov 2011. Last phase of work included the demotion of approximately 400,000 sf remaining structure.
