About Us > History

The D. H. Griffin Companies (DHGCO) were founded by D. H. Griffin, Sr. in 1959. With an opportunity to salvage building materials from a building scheduled to be razed, D. H. Griffin, Sr. performed the first dismantling, removal and recycling job in company history.

Since that first project in 1959, the company has grown steadily. In 1967, the small demolition and recycling company known today as D. H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Inc. (DHG) was incorporated. In the years since that time, DHG has grown to be the largest demolition contractor in the South, with 17 offices in eight states.

In 1985, DHG established it's environmental affiliate Demolition & Asbestos Removal Inc. (DARI) to provide associated asbestos, lead and hazardous materials removal. The DHGCO scope of services has continued to grow during the past 20 years and now includes a used equipment division, a commercial construction company and infrastructure development division. These divisions have added to the services offered by DHGCO, allowing DHGCO to self perform associated services under one contract.

Today, DHGCO continues to operate as a family owned business. Many things have changed since the company first started, but not our dedication to providing professional services. Hard work and dedication in completing a project in a safe, cost-effective and timely manner continue to be the primary objectives of our family of companies. In today's demolition industry, the old concept of the wrecking ball and hoisting crane has given way to the use of specialized techniques and sophisticated equipment. DHG currently has over machines including shears, grapples and loaders. With DHGCO's financial strength, a large equipment fleet and a strong reputation, we have the resources to honor any commitments we enter into.
